So having previously covered the bathrooms trends of 2022 , it seems only fitting that we let you know what the new year has instore for kitchens.

Having spent more time indoors in recent years the kitchen has once again gained it’s popularity as the most important room in your home, providing a place for family time and conversation.

We sit down once more with Rearo’s Head of Design, Fiona Kennedy, to ask all of those important questions.

What colours should I choose for my kitchen?

So from the colour palette of 2022, kitchen designers have favoured two colour choices the most – blue and green.

In particular these include olive green, deep forest green and also navy blue.

Use these colours in combination with other textures or lighter finishes to create a two tone modern kitchen space.

Our personal recommendations include Olive Green kitchen cabinetry with our Valley Oak or Rovero Wafer laminate kitchen worktops.

Or alternatively, for navy blue options, our light grey concrete effect Copperfield laminate worktops look great.

What finish should I choose for my kitchen taps?

There is ongoing debate as to whether dark mattes or metallic finishes will dominate the choice for kitchen fittings and fixtures each year, however 2022 is very much about metal options.

This year, expect to see a lot of of gold or copper taps and possibly handles on your wall cabinets.

What style of kitchen worktops are in for 2022?

Kitchen worktops are getting thinner and square edge finishes are being favoured over the traditional postformed option.

In regards to finishes, matte is the preference, flat pantone colours and concrete effect worktops are the best choice for your kitchen space.

We would recommend selecting our Grigio Alpaca worktopswhite kitchen worktops or Etna Grey concrete worktop.

What look should I choose for my kitchen cabinetry ?

For those looking for ultra modern kitchen design, influenced entirely by the latest trends, you should be considering your storage solutions and looking to lose handles all together, opting instead for a touch option.

Consider building an additional mezzanine layer on top of your existing units for less frequently used items and look for clever storage within what would have previously been an unutilised area – such as end panels. These can quite easily be turned in to wine racks or quirky compartments for your cooking equipment.

What splashbacks should I choose for my kitchen wall space?

Contrasting splashbacks are the way to go for 2022, deliberately ensuring that you’re worktops do not match and therefore creating a statement.

This could include combining textures with smooth matte, concretes and woods or stone effects with soft blacks or white.

Another option to consider would be acrylic kitchen splashbacks, although glass is the hot topic, our Zenolite range offers 25x the impact resistance.

MSP HUMZA YOUSAF AND MP CHRIS STEPHENS VISIT REARO’S GLASGOW HQ TO CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH £1/2 MILLION DEVELOPMENT

As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations we were delighted to welcome Humza Yousaf MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, and Chris Stephens MP, Shadow SNP Spokesperson (Fair Work and Employment), to our Govan HQ on Friday 19th November.

While there, they saw the positive investments which Rearo has made in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and learnt more about our company’s successful apprenticeship programme.

Renowned for designing and manufacturing durable worktopswall panels, and flooring for commercial use, as well as domestic bathrooms and kitchens, we choose to mark the 30-year milestone by investing more than £500,000 in transforming production processes and working practices – developing new products, and embedding a commitment to customer service across the company.

These significant business developments have been helped by Scottish Enterprise, who contributed a £100,000 grant funding towards a three-year project of factory improvements which is costing Rearo more than £500,000. These improvements include the creation of a link building to join Rearo’s two factories at 29 and 45 Loanbank Quadrant, Govan, as well as the creation of a new marketing suite, a logistics office, and additional staff welfare facilities.

The final part of the project is due to be completed shortly with the commissioning of an environmentally friendly, fast-acting PVA adhesive line to increase throughput, improve manufacturing efficiencies, and play a significant role in our company’s green strategy from 2022 onwards.

We have also made huge transformations to our Govan HQ by re-configuring the factory layout, introducing a click and collect scheme, and most recently launching a brand-new e-commerce website and renovating our showroom to give customers a better experience post-lockdown.

These innovations have allowed Rearo to bring more of our services in-house, creating jobs for a wide range of skills such as sales, design and delivery.

Jim Watson, Director of Business Services and Advice at Scottish Enterprise, said: “This milestone celebration coincides with the culmination of a major transformation for the company. Having supported Rearo on this project, as well as assisting its team with various training and development programmes over the years, it’s great to see the company continue to grow and thrive in Govan. Given the recent COP26 summit right here in Glasgow, it’s also particularly pleasing to see the company making manufacturing efficiencies that will contribute to its green ambitions.”

More work with Scottish Enterprise and Skills Development Scotland has seen our apprenticeship scheme develop siginificantly, which has led to the hiring of 20 apprentices over the past five years and winning the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards in 2018 for equality and diversity. Previous apprentices have gone on to a wide range of careers within Rearo, including management positions.

Chris Stephens MP, Shadow SNP Spokesperson (Fair Work and Employment), said “I was delighted to be invited to Rearo to celebrate this remarkable 30-year milestone for this thriving local family manufacturing business within Glasgow South West.

It was exciting to see the new improvements to the factory and hear about the organisation’s growth strategy and the green ambitions for the future.

Meeting the staff, it was clear that Rearo is an organisation that cares about its employees and is breaking down diversity and equality barriers through its award-winning apprenticeship programme.

A big round of applause goes to the whole workforce over the last 30 years, whose unconditional dedication to manufacturing good products and nurturing talent has been an integral part of its journey to this achievement.

I wish all involved with Rearo many more years of success in the future and see nothing but continued growth for this award-winning family business.”

Humza Yousaf MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, commented: “I am delighted to have visited Rearo Laminates as they celebrate 30 years in their Govan HQ. Not only do they provide award winning service and quality of product, but they are providing vital apprenticeships which have benefitted many in the constituency.

It was great to finally see in person the improvements Rearo have made to their factory in Govan and meet the hardworking team to celebrate their success. Their services and products have not been undermined by the challenges of the pandemic, but rather saw them supply the laminate surfaces for the construction of the Louisa Jordan hospital in 2020 – a massive congratulations needs to be given to them as recognition of their achievement. Here’s to at least another 30 years of Rearo Laminates! I look forward to seeing what they do next”

Rearo managing director Graham Mercer said: “We are very grateful to Humza Yousaf MSP and Chris Stephens MP for taking the time to come to Rearo and see the developments in our Govan headquarters and to learn more about our apprenticeship programme on this significant anniversary.

“Both of these initiatives demonstrate the ambition and the superb progress of Rearo. As we plan the next phase of our growth, the transformation of the factory, backed by Scottish Enterprise, will clearly play a central role in our strategy, while the apprenticeship programme highlights our long-term commitment to the local community.”

With every new year comes a brand new set of interior design trends and 2022 is no different. We sit down with our own Head of Design, Fiona Kennedy, to ask all things bathroom and narrow down on the trends you should be implementing in your home for the year ahead.

Whether it’s bathroom walls, vanity unit worktops, ceilings or floors, consider this blog to be your key to bathroom design for 2022.

Become inspired and have the confidence to create your dream living space for the new year.

So Fiona, 2022 has been a little different in terms of trend forecasting with the limitations on in-person events due to the pandemic, do you feel this has impacted on what designers are showing?

I definitely feel that the pandemic has caused everyone to review their way of working, material shortages and price increases have encouraged frugality from both customers and businesses.

This paired with a heightened interest in eco matters, following COP26, has seen sustainability become a major talking point across many designers collections and has also encouraged the re-purposing of many items.

As well as this, there is an increased desire for the outside and so biophilia is also a hot topic for any interior designer.

And all of these are pretty evident within the latest bathroom trends.

Interesting, we’ll make sure to check out these looks. Are you ready for us to do a quick fire round of some of the most asked questions relating to bathroom trends for 2022?

Certainly, I’d love to pass on whatever knowledge I can to help our customers create their dream bathroom.

What colours are in for bathrooms in 2022?

Muted earthy hues of brown and orange, alongside green and other shell colours such as blue, purple and pink all form the colour palette for 2022.

Pantone’s own colour of the year is ‘Veri Peri’, which they describe as a vibrant shade of periwinkle blue with energizing violet-red undertones

We recommend using these colours on your on bathroom walls with the assistance of the following shower panelsSelkie Perwinkle Shower Panel, Violet Mistral Laminate Shower Panel Selkie Sage Shower Panel .

Which interior design trends are in for 2022?

Sustainability promotes minimalism and the use of natural materials, most commonly associated to Scandinavian style. However there also seems to be place for the decadence of provincial style – possibly linked to the rising popularity of antiques and second hand shopping in recent years.

Both are easily applied to bathroom areas.

Scandinavian bathroom style

Originating in northern Europe, Scandinavian style derives from the 1950s and takes its aesthetic from nature and spending time outdoors. Key elements include wood finishes and live plants, alongside cosy textures such as chunky knits and faux fur.

Warm, friendly and rustic, provincial style represents the return of the retro style bathroom . Known for its introduction of soft pastel shades, ornamental furniture and porcelain, this luxury aesthetic can create a statement in your bathroom.

What flooring is in for 2022?

If you are just looking to update certain surfaces, as opposed to a full bathroom overall, changing your flooring is a great way to update your home. Our own range of click vinyl has great water resistant properties and has built-in insulation.

Mid-tone woods and concrete flooring are both in for 2022, which are both particularly complementary to our extensive range of shower panels.

What are the tile trends for bathrooms in 2022?

Although we do not stock tiles, our tile effect shower panels cover all of the latest interior trends within this market.

Subway tiles, herringbone and patterned finishes, as well as larger tile formats are predicted as the key trends for 2022 – focusing on soft matte finishes.

Make sure to look out for our new collection in the spring.

What finish should I choose for my bathroom taps?

There is ongoing debate between both copper and matte black finishes as being the favoured finish for bathroom taps in 2022, however it looks like dark mattes have won the battle.

What accessories should I be considering for my bathroom?

Indoor plants for one, I think anyone can observe the uptake in these and how widespread their availability has become. Giving you the ability to de stress, whilst purifying the air within your home, they make for the perfect addition to any bathroom.

Other than this, make use of sustainable materials when choosing rugs and towels – rattan furniture always looks great in a bathroom setting.

Thanks Fiona, we’ll make sure to have a think about those refurb plans, we’re excited about the bathroom trends that 2022 has to offer.
