A mixture of cold winter weather and humid air can lead to one of the most infuriating bathroom issues – condensation.
Although a naturally occurring issue, if left untreated it can lead to unsightly mould and further issues down the line.
So just how do you treat this common bathroom problem?
What causes bathroom condensation?
First and foremost, to understand how to treat condensation, you need to learn its origins.
Moisture laiden air is typically caused by a crossover of warm and humid air from hot showers or baths coming into contact with cold surfaces, forming small droplets of water on the surface.
Most common place is on bathroom mirror surfaces, tiles and bathroom walls – this can be particularly irritating when caring for shower panels.

Prevent mould growth
To prevent mould growth within your bathroom, you need to find solutions for ways to prevent condensation forming in the first instance.
Below are some of the most common solutions to reduce condensation in your bathroom.
Buy a bathroom extractor fan or dehumidifier
By having a built-in extractor fan within your bathroom, you are automatically extracting any moist air and venting it to the atmosphere outside.
Demist your mirror and wipe down surfaces
By keeping surfaces dry you will prevent excess moisture resting and seeping in to unwanted areas, therefore it’s best to keep your mirrors and walls free from any water droplets.
To save time, upgrade existing bathroom mirrors to have built-in demisting qualities via heating pads under the mirror surface. These can be found via all major bathroom retailers.
Another time saver is to also remove any wet towels and dry outwith your bathroom area.
Turn up the heating within your bathroom
Although an investment, double glazed windows are the best option for your bathroom and a more eco-friendly solution to retaining heat and keeping your bathroom warm.
Alternatively you will have to refer to additional heaters in some instances to dry out the space.
Keep bathroom doors and windows open
By keeping a window or bathroom door closed, you are giving no opportunity for moisture laden air to leave your bathroom and so keeping either slightly ajar will reduce moisture and prevent mould.
Choosing the best products to prevent moisture build-up
As well as adopting any of the above methods, your choice of bathroom surfaces can also stop condensation.
Both pvc and laminate wall panels provide an easy wipe surface for your walls, whilst pvc ceiling panels will catch any rising steam.
Due to the nature of the materials, residue will simply rest on wet surfaces, making them much easier to clean and maintain.
Cleaning condensation marks from your bathroom walls
Simply wipe down your surfaces with a cloth and mild detergent to remove any residue and for any further condensation related marks, please utilise a vinegar based cleaner such as windolene along with kitchen towel to dry.

Despite its many benefits, there is one shortcoming of our shower wall panel range – any adaptations to the panel surface are permanent!
Which means activities such as hanging a mirror in a fully clad bathroom space have to be planned a little differently.
If you intend to go down the traditional route of screws then you need to be fairly committed to the position of your accessory, otherwise the only way to reverse this adaption is by filling in holes with our colour match sealant – much like when you use Polyfilla.
So what are your other alternatives?

Opt for a full length mirror
Many full length mirrors are often free standing, which means you can not only benefit from a larger observation area but also have the versatility to change the position your mirror or swap it out for an alternative design based on the style you are going for.
Heavy duty mounting tape
Or, if you intend to mount your mirrors on to your bathroom wall, then mounting tape is also a great alternative.
Simply mark out your mirror sizes with a pencil and then cut your tape to size, removing the backing to expose the adhesive and providing a tight grip.

Concealed mirror brackets
Another option is to utilise concealed brackets, which again avoid using a drill bit.
Concealed metal brackets feature strong edge clips to securely retain the mirror and then adhesive is simply squeezed in to the fitting, to keep it in its marked positions.
Ceilings may be an after thought when it comes to your latest refurbishment, but they offer many advantages for your bathroom.
It seems only right that when you invest in your walls, your ceiling would be the next natural step.
In this latest blog installment, we provide further information behind some of the key benefits of bathroom ceiling panels.

Their lightweight and flexible structure means they can do so without weighing down ceilings.
Various PVC Ceiling Cladding styles
And, to suit a variety of tastes, there are various style options available.
Our own range has been selected to complement our wall panel options.
Within this, we stock a range of five décor options in both white gloss and matte finishes – ranging from wood effects and chrome finishes to plain.

To remove any residue from your panels, simply wipe them down with a damp cloth and mild detergent to keep your ceiling looking like new.
